Week 37: Martial Arts with a Hollywood Twist
“Empty your cup so that it may be filled” - Bruce Lee
What did I do:
There is a very exciting studio in North Hollywood called XMA World Headquarters. We recently learned that they offer a 2 week free trial for all of their classes. So a few friends and I decided to give it a try, starting with their traditional Action Class.
Who was with me:
My partners in crime this week were Angie and Kate. I recommend taking the class with friends, it is loads of fun and you will leave with big smiles on your faces.
What did I learn:
We learned hand and kicking techniques, self defense and basics of weapons & sparring. The class description said we'd get into board breaking but that didn't happen. More importantly, I was reminded of how cool and fearless kids are. The group of kids that were in our class were incredibly disciplined, social and overall positive. It gave me lots of hope for this future generation. If and when I have kids, I'd happily put them in martial arts classes.
Would I do it again:
I'd definitely come back to this studio to try out their other classes. In addition to the action class we took, they also have the following:
Performance - Learn how to lead, exercise creativity & learn how to perform doing Xtreme Martial Arts. This class is tailored for actors/performers and what they are most famous for.
Acrobatics/Tricking - Tumbling, flips, tricks & acrobatic kicks, olympic trampoline & spring floor, tumble track, mini-trampoline, and 9000 cube foam pit.
XMA Action Stunts - Learn, practice, film and post. Fight choreography, reactions, falls, weapons and camera angles. Get footage for social media, representation and reels.
