Week 22: Wedding Flash Dance
What did I do:
Years ago, my friend Jen saw footage of a bride and her bridal party surprise the groom with a choreographed sultry dance. She turned to me and said, I want to do that at my wedding. She hadn’t even met her husband yet. Once she got engaged to Roy, she teamed up with our friend Ellie to choreograph a dance. We practiced at the bridal shower, the bachelorette party and on our own. Practice paid off cause when it was time for the big night, we killed it on the dance floor.
Who was with me:
Part of the reason it was so much fun is the group of girls I got to dance with. I’ve known Jen, Deb (her sister) and Ellie for over 20 years. Not only that, but we all met as kids through a performing arts group doing musicals and dances together. Let's just say, we have shared the stage many times in the past. So it was a bit nostalgic to share the stage again as adults.
What did I learn:
Getting a group of empowered, talkative and fun loving women to practice a dance is like herding cats. I didn’t envy Jen or Ellie during our rehearsals.
Would I do this again:
Yes! Being a bridesmaid is always an honor. Being a bridesmaid that is part of a choreographed flash dance is even more special. The guests loved us! The look on Roy’s face when Jen took the stage was priceless. It gave us all a chance to celebrate Jen and Roy’s love and add some sass to their special night.
